The Workout: Music Production & Engineering is an immersive, multi-week program for individuals with experience in recording, producing, and/or audio engineering, who want to supercharge their music production skills in a fun, hands-on environment.

Over 11 weeks, participants will gain valuable technical expertise through customized mentorship from industry pros, peer collaboration, and direct interaction with Colorado musicians. The program will take place onsite at the Music District and various local recording studios, where the cohort will record, produce, and mix new tracks, helping to launch their careers in professional audio engineering.

Past program mentors include twelve-time GRAMMY winners Gary Paczosa, Ian Kagey, Jason Livermore, and GRAMMY-nominated producer Andrew Berlin.

  • The Workout: Music Production & Engineering is for individuals who are focused on making a career (or serious hustle) in the world of music production and have a vision for their progress. Prior experience in recording, audio engineering, and/or music production is highly beneficial. The Workout will be offered in person at the Music District in Fort Collins, CO, as well as various local recording studios.

    Collaboration with Colorado artists, peers, and facilitators is a core expectation of the program. To be successful in this program, individuals must be open to self-reflection and receiving constructive feedback as tools for improvement and growth.

    The ideal participant has access to their own Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) and personal music production computer/laptop.

  • Each week will consist of two sessions onsite at the Music District or local studio location. Sessions will explore four cycles:   

    (1) RECORDING & ENGINEERING: explore best practices for tracking & fundamentals for running a successful session. 

    (2) PRODUCING: discover innovative & creative techniques & taking collaboration to new heights. 

    (3) MIXING & EDITING: achieve a quality mix through developing post-production proficiency. 

    (4) MASTERING: gain basic mastering skills as the final element of the finished track. 

  • The Workout: Music Production & Engineering will take place over 11 weeks from March –May 2025, with two in-person sessions per week.

    Please note: participants must provide their own transportation between program locations.

  • A Music District Membership will be required for all participants of The Workout: Music Production & Engineering.

    Important note: If selected, participants will be onboarded as Members during the first few weeks of March 2025. The Music District team will reach out to schedule your one-hour onboarding session between these dates.

    Participants of The Workout: Music Production & Engineering must be Music District members for the duration of the program. The cost of Membership for March-May is $90 (total).

    Membership includes access to all the Music District has to offer such as rehearsal rooms, production space, programs, industry 1-on-1s, pro gear and equipment, and much more.

  • The ideal Workout participant is someone: 

    (1) whose vision and artistic commitment are clear through the links and written entries submitted.   

    (2) who is community-minded (i.e. open to collaboration, excited to share skills and experience, willing to test new approaches, and ready to support and respect others in the process).   

    (3) who represents a unique perspective, background, style, and/or musical skillset.   

    *While songwriting and production quality are part of the selection process, we value representation when determining the composition of the cohort. We believe this program has the most potential when the group is comprised of gifted, community-minded musicians who represent diverse backgrounds, abilities, skillsets, and experience.
